| A Special Hound Preview Evening to mark Robert Vallance's 25 years as Hunt Secretary |
PUPPY SHOW PREVIEW
A very special Preview evening was arranged on 12th May 2009 by the Masters to mark Robert Vallance’s 25 years as Secretary to the Bicester Hunt with Whaddon Chase.
Patrick Martin, assisted by the new first whip, Tom Baker and Ben Whale produced this year’s entry in front of guest judges, Ian Farquhar MFH and Sally Nicholson, both former Masters of the Bicester. The assembled guests included a further 10 former, or present Masters who between them covered the Bicester Mastership from the years 1973 to 2009! Additionally, in David Barnett, Harold Bowley, Clive Preston and Christopher Hodgson, the last four Chairmen of the Hunt were present and, but for the absence of Michael Forbes who was walking the Pennines, continuity of former and current Treasurers, with Peter Wright present, would also have been achieved!
The Whaddon connections were also well represented in the form of Jamie and Annie Judd, together with Neil and Daph Wyatt while Nora Pheasey was there to ensure that our former, much loved huntsmen, Brian was represented at this unique occasion.
The judges chose Border(walked by Alicia Strangman at Primrose Hill Farm,Gawcott) as the best of the Doghound entry and Faculty was deemed a clear winner from amongst the Bitches; Faculty was walked by Mrs Jeff Smith of Logg Farm, Oddington .
The assembled company were subsequently invited to a sumptuous supper in the Barn at Stud Farm as beautifully arranged by Heather Tylor where Christopher Hodgson paid tribute to the years of work that Robert, and Melanie Vallance had put in on behalf of the Hunt. Patrick Martin also spoke about some of the many puppies that the Vallances have had at walk, noting that to date they have walked no less than 49 couple!
Continuity is vital for any hunt and in Robert Vallance the Bicester Hunt with Whaddon Chase can consider itself extremely fortunate to have had such a long serving and excellent Hunt Secretary.
Christopher Hodgson .
