Sports Club
The club was formed initially with a clay-pigeon section in the early nineteen twenties for farmers and their families, and was a means of thanking them for allowing the hunt to cross their land in the winter.
The club has a series of shoots held at masters and subscribers homes on Monday and Friday evenings. These culminate in a final on the first Friday in June at Kirtlington Park for the Budgett cup. We then have some matches against adjacent hunts. In 1947 during the post war turmoil, the Hunt’s farmers took responsibility for the running of the club with subscribers acting as their hosts, and this has continued to the present day A cricket and tennis section was formed later, again playing internal and external matches. More recently a golf competition has been started, showing the changing times.
The goodwill created, and success of this club is phenomenal and the envy of our neighbouring hunts, our oldest participating farmer at shoots is eighty- seven years of age. Long may the club continue. For further information contact the club secretary: Harriet West 01869 277748
